Attention Autism in Class S3

20th Nov 2019

The ladybirds in class S3 love Attention Autism or ‘bucket’ time as we call it!

Attention Autism is an intervention model designed by Gina Davies, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist. It aims to develop natural and spontaneous communication through the use of visually based and highly motivating activities. Bucket time aims to support children’s attention skills, helping them to develop and maintain focus for longer periods of time. Just look at the attention on Emily’s face watching the bubbles being blown and Danny sitting and waiting to see what the robot was going to do next!

Bucket time is one of S3’s favourite activities. Everyone sits together to watch what the teacher has in their bucket and then at the end of the lesson pupils have an opportunity to take part in the fun. Finn and Havana enjoyed having a go at the rocket launch! And Eoin got a turn at pretending to be a firework during our Halloween bucket.

It is a great opportunity for language development and lots of fun and laughs as you can see from the photographs. Sam really enjoys the flying aeroplaneĀ  – just look at the smile on his face!

We theme our buckets to our class topic so this term we have been doing a transport bucket. Next month will be all about Christmas!
