Work Experience at Sainsbury’s, Ballymena

17th Oct 2018

On Wednesday 10th October Mrs McPeak had the pleasure of taking 5 students to Sainsbury’s in Ballymena for a Work Experience taster afternoon organised through Autism NI. The students were Louis, Finn, James, Jordan and Ciaran. The pupils had such a great time! They were warmly greeted by Erin (a Sainsbury’s employee) who had organised the training for them and the boys chose which area they wanted to start in.

Louis and Finn went to check outs, Ciaran went to the Café and Jordan and James wanted to stack shelves. They had a taster of what it would be like on the shop floor. Finn, on the check outs, particularly enjoyed himself! He worked alongside Sharon from Sainsbury’s and he loved scanning all items and receiving payment! Jordan and James both took on to their job really quickly and both had massive smiles on their faces. They were as proud as punch to have a job they were trusted with in a big supermarket!

Once they had finished they all got to make their own pizzas and cook them in the ovens within the bakery department. The pupils were a joy to look after and it was just amazing to see how much they enjoyed their taster session. It was a fantastic afternoon for all involved.

We really hope there will be more opportunities in the future for Castle Tower.
