Super Trip to the Titanic

23rd Mar 2017

Both class 6 and class 7 have been studying the Titanic as part of their topic this term. As Castle Tower is a partner school of the Titanic Centre in Belfast both classes enjoyed a trip out to the centre. Our trip started with a tour of the last remaining White Star Line vessel – The Nomadic and the children were informed of its numerous roles over its years of service. However a definite highlight for all was Mr McAllister being dressed up as a second class female passenger! The children also enjoyed the games area, where they played various games and interactive puzzles.

After a short lunch break all the pupils took part in an ‘Abandon Ship’ workshop. In three groups they had to rank 15 items on order of importance, imagining they were abandoned in a life boat in the Atlantic Ocean. Real lifeboats were provided! Each group choices were scored and thankfully each group preformed well enough to survive (just about)!

A big thanks to all the staff at the Titanic centre for all their help, a very enjoyable and worthwhile trip.
