North West Mountain Rescue Visit

23rd Mar 2017

A group from North West Mountain Rescue visited Castle Tower on Monday 20 March in order to give pupils an understanding of the type of work they engage in. Three stations were set up and pupils got to visit each in turn to sample some of the way in which search and rescue is facilitated. Pupils got to see the rescue stretcher equipment. Some pupils volunteered to be rescued and others were the rescuers. At another station, pupils got to experience what it is like to lie inside the casualty rescue bag. At the third station was the star of the show, rescue and research dog ‘Tess’. She made a huge impression on us all with her beautiful nature and great talent. One pupil volunteered her mobile phone to be hidden and located by Tess who rose to the challenge and retrieved the phone in seconds! We are so grateful to the team who came into school to share with us the wonderful work they do. We all learned lots. The practical opportunities were invaluable. We hope they will come to see us all again soon, especially Tess!
